Today I got an email for a known web to SMS service team – Way2SMS about how to ensure that you choose a secured password. Thought of sharing this with everyone, hope this is helpful in some way.

——————–

We live in a password-driven world, where between four and 20 characters are the difference makers in whether you’re able to access your data, communicate with friends, or make your online purchases. The problem is that passwords should be different everywhere you use them, and that can make it difficult to remember them all. And, if a password is truly strong, that makes it even more difficult. That’s why we’ve put together this helpful password guide. Follow these tips and tricks to take total control of your terms for access

>> Common Problems with Passwords

Use Different Passwords Everywhere Why would you do this when it’s so easy to just type “fido” at every password prompt? Here’s why: If “fido” gets cracked once, it means the person with that info now has access to all of your online accounts. A study by BitDefender showed that 75 percent of people use their e-mail password for Facebook, as well. The saying goes like this:You should change your password often (okay, maybe not every day). Don’t share them. Don’t leave them out for others to see (no sticky notes!).Password should be mysterious. In other words, make your password a total mystery to others.

>> Avoid Common Passwords If the word you use can be found in the dictionary, it’s not a strong password. If you use numbers or letters in the order they appear on the keyboard (“1234″ or “qwerty”), it’s not a strong password. These are all things hackers would try first. They write programs to check these kinds of passwords first, in fact.

Gone will be the days when a hacker would pull out a laptop to hack into your wireless networks…all he would need is an Android powered smartphone and an application called Anti or Android Network Toolkit.

The application was demonstrated during the Defcon hacker conference on Friday by an Israeli security firm Zimperium. Anti will be available free for users from the Android Market, with a $10 corporate upgrade.
Anti will offer penetration testers the capabilities of scanning and sniffing WiFi networks, finding potential target devices along the way.

It will also allow exposing the IP addresses… of the remote servers along with attacks like Man-in-the-Middle using known exploits in the out of date software and programs.

The app has slick designed to currently take advantage of few known exploits in Windows, iOS and Android.

For more information visit the source Forbes website.

After going through the details here are the tips on how you can protect yourself from such attacks:

1. Update your Operating System with latest patches available

2. Secure your Wireless Networks with WPA2 (recommended) or with WEP (minimum)- Follow DIY section to achieve this or drop in a mail through the Contact Us page for further details.

While having a discussion with a close friend of mine over setting up his Belkin router (with USB port) to connect the printer for access to all the computers/laptops on the network; a question was asked about “how and where to install the drivers for the printer”.

It struck me that this could certainly be the same feature that you… have also been looking for, since the number of computers/laptops in your home or small office are more than one. This sounds like a necessary requirement.

Hit this link for setting up your printer over USB with a Belkin router.

Leave your comments if you require information about connection any router and printer (mention make & model of both).

Happy Wireless Networking!!

Once the configuration of the wireless network is done and you are now connected. At times it so happens that you may experience dropping of the connection on your devices like computer, laptop or mobile devices. This may be occurring due to:

1. Wireless coverage not available in the particular area of the location

2. Other electronic equipment like cordless phones, microwave ovens and other wireless networks may cause interference.

To resolve these you may try the following…

1. Place the wireless router at a high point, the wireless signals are transmitted in a parabolic manner so the higher the router farther would be the range

2. Change the wireless router channel under Wireless -> Basic Wireless Settings -> Channel option

To determine the best channel for your router, download free inSSIDer utility which will scan air for the channels other router around are working on. Choose the least used channel for better range and quality.

If you face any issues, just reach us through the Contact Us section and we’ll be more than happy to assist you in resolving it.

Congratulations, on securing your Wi-Fi Network following the guides and suggestions by WiFi Warrior. Its time now to check if the settings are secure enough to protect you, your identity, your computer and your data.

To help you check your Wi-Fi network’s security, Pure Networks by Linksys offers a free wireless network security scan tool. It lets you quickly check for wireless network security issues and other computer and Internet security problems. Some of the issues the tool checks for are unknown computers or devices on the network, use of a default password for the wireless… network router, changed or open ports on the wireless network router, manipulated settings on a computer that would redirect a user to a malicious website, and the presence of up-to-date antivirus software. The tool requires the use of Internet Explorer 6 or later.

McAfee also offers a Wi-Fi Scan tool. It surveys your current Wi-Fi® connection, your wireless equipment, and local environment to assess security risks introduced by your wireless network. Wi-FiScan uses an ActiveX control to gather information. If security or performance issues are found, McAfee will suggest ways to reduce your risk.

Dear Visitors,

The idea behind WiFi Warrior is to assist the Small Office Home Office and Home users in securing their wireless internet access. Considering the growth of wireless network users in this sector and the open setup of the routers which makes them vulnerable to unauthorized user (hacker/terrorist); it was felt to spread the knowledge about protecting the wireless network and hence protect you, your files and your identity on the Internet.

The document – Securing the Wireless Network provides… the checklist to ensure to make it really difficult for the Hacker/Terrorist to rather leave your network to yourself than to violate your rights of privacy.

Spread the information to other who are ignoring it for convenience of easy wireless network setup.
