In 2007, during the regular War-Driving sessions around the residential areas to look out for open Wireless Networks, it was found that lot of WiFi Networks installed in the areas were vulnerable due to no Security implementation on the network.
The number of these individual users has been rising due to the drop in the costs of the Internet through Broadband and DSL lately in the Indian Sub-Continent along with the cost of hardware in terms of Desktop/Laptops and Modems/Routers/Wireless Routers. The new base of WiFi users was unaware of the threats of the open wireless network setups. The major reason towards this setup was 1. Lack of awareness of the threats of the Open Wireless Network and 2. The ease of setup of Open Wireless Network vis-a-vis a Secured Wireless Network. The Wireless Networks, if not secured properly could be exploited by malicious people by accessing the network within the vicinity of the WiFi (20-30meter radius from the wireless base router) without the knowledge of the actual owner.
During these War-Driving sessions, WiFi Warrior came into existence. The Mission of WiFi Warrior was to spread awareness, share knowledge and provide solutions to secure your Wireless Networks and protect your identity on the Internet.
